Lacephany FAQ
About the Craft
Q: Why is handmade crochet more expensive?
A: Unlike machine-made items, each piece involves:
-
Hours of skilled labor (avg. 8-30 hrs per item)
-
Premium materials (natural fibers cost 2-3x more than acrylic)
Your patience – no factories here, just human hands! (Fun fact: knitting can be done on a machine but crochet is in fact, a human art that has existenced for centuries).
Cleaning Guidelines
Q: How do I care for my crochet item?
A: To preserve your piece:
-
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent
-
Lay flat to dry (never wring or hang!)
- Store pieces folded (not on hangers)
Q: Why do I need to input my measurements if I clicked on S/M?
A: To make the fit of your item catered to you, knowing the range of size allows for adequate usage of yarn, granting for more yarn being used for sustainability purposes as well as a happy customer (giving you a personalized gift).
Here is the measurement guidelines for crochet, please use it and input what range you fall in to make your pieces for your body:

Colourway Preference
Q: Can I pick my own colours and not choice the selected colours for any piece?
A: Yes, you absolutely can. I have provided the set of colours based on the yarn collections I have used for each piece. I, of course, am not the one who will be wearing these pieces so if there is a colourway you prefer that is best, please contact me at [email protected] before purchase and I can confirm to you if I find similar yarn to use for the same project.
Example: "Would it be possible to change the colours to Purple, Pink, Blue and Silver for Mermaid Set?" as a question will allow me to search for yarns of similar likeness to confirm if I can choose those colours while keeping the fibres the same and ot similar enough.
Pricing Transparency
Q: Why is the XL more than S?
- A: Handmade pricing reflects actual costs in yarn and labour, as a XL uses 2X more yarn (+$30) and 2X the labor (+$60). I never markup purely for size!
- In order to be size inclusive, extra yarn becomes a part of creating for each beautiful body. This is just how crocheting is - and have seen the difference in sizing shift the cost of yarn, as well as time spent on each piece (through my own body).
Sustainability
Q: Are your materials eco-friendly?
A: I prioritize:
- Natural/organic fibers (cotton, wool, merino, cashmere, etc.)
- Recycled/upcycled yarn when possible
- Plastic-free packaging (compostable mailers, paper tape)
- The extra fibre is used to reduce waste and increase personalization of each piece (turn into a a small gift, if there is extra yarn)
